Beijing Itinerary Planner

Build a Beijing trip that gives the imperial core, the Great Wall, and the city's slower neighborhoods enough room to feel distinct. Start with a realistic 3-, 4-, or 5-day shape, then use China Go to turn your priorities into a paced plan.

First visit

Plan the shape before the stops

Beijing is not one compact sightseeing district. A first trip works better when the palace-and-axis day, the Great Wall day, the garden or temple day, and hutong time are treated as different planning blocks. China Go helps you decide what belongs together and what should stay separate.

Recommended trip lengths

Choose the pace that fits

  1. 3 days

    Essentials with clear tradeoffs

One imperial-core day, one Great Wall day, and one flexible culture or neighborhood day. You will need to leave something out.

  2. 4 days

    Recommended for most first-time visitors

Add room for a garden, temple, museum, or slower hutong evening without compressing the Great Wall into another major sightseeing day.

  3. 5 days

    More depth and recovery time

Keep the headline sights, add a second neighborhood or cultural layer, and give large sites the time they need.

First-time highlights

Three layers to protect

  1. Forbidden City and the imperial core

Use one major historical anchor to understand Beijing's scale before adding smaller stops.

  2. A dedicated Great Wall day

Treat the Wall as its own outing so transfers and walking do not crowd out the experience.

  3. Temple, garden, and hutong contrast

Balance monumental Beijing with quieter parks, lanes, and an evening route that can slow down.

Ticket planning

Secure the most restrictive booking first, then shape the rest of the day around it.

Release-time booking

Forbidden City — book at release time

The Palace Museum opens tickets at 8:00 pm Beijing time seven days before the visit and does not sell same-day admission. Reservations and entry are real-name. International visitors can book with passport details and must carry the original passport used for the reservation. Secure this ticket before fixing the rest of your Beijing day order.

Tian'anmen Square — check whether you need a separate reservation

The official window is one to seven days in advance, with new dates released at 12:00 noon Beijing time. The reservation is real-name and the original identity document is checked. A same-day reservation for certain adjacent sites may also provide Square access, but confirm the current rule before relying on that connection.

Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace — lower urgency

Beijing's official municipal park service lists e-tickets one to seven days in advance and requires first-time real-name verification. Book once your dates are stable, but protect the Forbidden City slot first.
