Guilin and Yangshuo Itinerary Planner
Plan Guilin and Yangshuo as one connected landscape trip, not two city checklists. Decide where to base yourself, protect a river or transfer day, and keep a separate countryside day for the karst scenery to slow down.
First visit
Plan the shape before the stops
The main decision is how to divide your nights and avoid moving back and forth. Guilin works as a transport and city gateway; Yangshuo gives easier access to slower countryside experiences. River products, road transfers, weather, and activity conditions can change, so the page focuses on route shape rather than promising a fixed cruise or rafting schedule.
Recommended trip lengths
Choose the pace that fits
- 3 days
Compact landscape route
Use one Guilin arrival or orientation block, one river or transfer day, and one Yangshuo countryside day.
- 4 days
Recommended for most first-time visitors
Add breathing room for a second landscape experience, photography, cycling, or a slower evening without forcing Longji into a rushed day.
- 5 days
Slower nature trip
Keep Guilin and Yangshuo balanced and consider an additional regional layer only after transfer and weather conditions are confirmed.
First-time highlights
Three layers to protect
Li River landscape
Make the river corridor a central planning block rather than squeezing it between unrelated stops.
Guilin city orientation
Use one compact city layer to settle in and understand the gateway before moving deeper into the landscape.
Yangshuo countryside
Protect time for slower karst views, walking, cycling, or another weather-appropriate outdoor activity.

Ticket planning
Secure the most restrictive booking first, then shape the rest of the day around it.
Book in advance
Li River cruise — book before arrival
The official scenic-area guidance says peak-season capacity may not meet demand and recommends buying at least one day in advance. During major holiday operations, the scenic area may publish a longer temporary presale window, so check current notices as soon as your river date is fixed.

Boarding and departure details — confirm the exact product
The passenger, ticket, and valid identity document must match at boarding. The main Guilin-to-Yangshuo cruise is one-way, and the departure pier depends on the cruise class. Do not treat a generic Li River ticket as interchangeable with a raft, segmented cruise, or another departure point.
